(not a real snack, so don't feel obligated to post ;P) A thread dedicated to the wonderful women Desdemona... Y'all can just rave about how much you loved her character (or hated her) like me! First of all, I have love for all women in literature... b/c they're awesome. But anyways... I think Desdemona's character deserves a lot more credit. After all, the whole story revolves around this one beautiful women. I was first awed when I realized that Othello was black. Just the fact that she married a black man showed her strength. To go against the grain and engage in interracial marriage is HUGE thing! Especially back then. I mean, you guys read the play, even Othello's friends were a little racist sometimes, their comments were kind of borderline racist. I think she deserves some props for that. Hmm.. what else.. AND the fact that even after he EFFIN KILLED HER she still tried to remain loyal by saying that it was a suicide... CMON! No man would ever have the balls to help his wife if she had attempted to kill him. It just shows how much of a bigger person she was. I think she was the strongest character in the play. I can rave about her forever... but if anyone wants to join in on the Desdemona lovin party, then feel free

I can say I truly loved Desdemona's character because she was the one person who was always loyal and she never did anything wrong to deserve death as her punishment. What I liked about her was how faithful she was to Othello all the way to her last breath. Her love was so strong that she was able to take the blame for Othello's crime in stabbing her. It takes guts to take the blame but she did it without hesitating which makes her seem strong. She had the courage, but also love to accept something she didn't do.
Desdemona also had a unique way in talking to Othello even when she was being accused for being with Cassio. She kept calm and tried to explain to Othello that she has always been loyal to him. I liked her character because it shows how woman at that time are always loyal to their husbands until death. I just thought she was awesome and she didn't do any fault to deserve being killed by the hands of Othello.

desdemona is not a strong character, she is stereotypical. back then in her days woman were (unfortunately) second to men, and they were brain washed since they were kids that a mans word is law, even if what hes saying is ridiculous or goes against their morality. so desdemona was just being faithful to her place in the chain thing. yeh, and i gotta say that thats bull s***, i can name a few guys who will gladly allow their woman to kill them: Edward from Twilight, like if bella was a wolf and was forced by sam to kill him then hed gladly let her, also Peeta from The Hunger Games, he actually was in that position, where katnis had to kill him to win, and he told her to just get it over with, and Patch from Hush Hush, because in the 3rd book Nora becomes a nephilim, a fallen angels enemy, and hed let her kill him because he loves her and its now her job to lead the nephilim in the war against the fallen angels. Boom

Dannnng John! Totally respect your post! ;D But, I still do love Desdemona as well as Carina and Crystal! She is pretty assertive. For example, when her father was telling her that she HAD to choose him over Othello, Desdemona replied saying no, that her loyalty was now to both, not just him. Also when Othello hits her and she firmly states she does not deserve the "love tap". She doesn't just compel herself to agree with the top men in her life. This woman rebels! (As all women should.) As the two girls before me have said, the fact that she remained loyal to her man is AWESOME. I wouldn't have done that.. As I bet many other women wouldn't have either. She DID, though. So my girl Desdemona deserves some credit!

I completely agree with you carina! Even though I wouldn't have handled the situations she was put in , in the same way, she was very admirable!
She stayed loyal to her husband and never disrespected him She kept her composure and didn't let her pride in her way. MANY of people can really use thad advice. But i completely agree with your outlook on her.
